Laurie's nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed fiddle)

About the album

Volume 1 of my 5-volume Scandinavian series, this album features Swedish dance tunes played in harmony by two expert fiddlers, for listening, dancing or tune-learning.  The tunes range from joyous to brooding, dark to light.  Available as regular and instructional versions (below).

Polska is a uniquely Swedish 3/4 time couple dance form which pre-dates the waltz.  There are many different kinds of polskas from the different provinces and villages of Sweden.  Volume 1 covers the musically-famous villages of Dalarna province, and other provinces of the northern part of the country.

Reviews

"I just received CD 1 in the mail, listening to it right now, and I am SO excited!! It's GREAT!!! I am in Polska heaven!! your playing (and Stefhan's) is beautiful, and I can't wait to be proficient enough to play the tunes myself! so thanks!" -- Erin

"Wonderful! I want to learn every tune on it." -- Catharine

"Great harmonies! This has become one of my favorite CDs." -- Joanne

"Your CDs are always gifts to humanity. And the cover of this latest one is exquisite, celebrating the beauty of the instruments as well as the music." -- Camille Doucet, visual artist

"Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! We'll be dancing to that Orsapolska tune ---sounds great!" -- Bruce Emery, dance instructor

"Ken says 'exquisite', I say 'sumptuous'. Your new CD is so beautiful. What a wonderful holiday gift." -- Debra Moree, professor of Viola, Ithaca College

"Thanks so much for the CDs! Danse ce Soir and Scandinavian Fiddle Tradition 1 have been in constant rotation at home and in my car ever since they arrived. Listening to them makes me happy, instantly. Your playing is absolutely marvelous! Double extra thanks for making me the special CD of the instructional version of the Fiddle Tradition 1 CD: it's like having a secret decoder ring! Some of those polskas are mighty slippery-sounding in the meter department, but now I'm starting to figure out where beat 1 is!" -- Ernie
